How long do I need to have held a driving license before I become a driving instructor?

You need to have held a driving license for four years before you can be accepted onto the Register of Approved Driving Instructors. However, you can start training once you have held your license for three-and-a-half years.

Can I become a driving instructor if I have points on my driving license?

You will have to declare any penalty points on your application to become an approved driving instructor, but normally you will be accepted so long as you have no more than 6 points.

Is there an eyesight requirement, as with the ‘L’ test?

Yes. You need to be able to read a number plate at a distance of 27.5 metres, which is further than for the ‘L’ test.

Do I have to pass any exams to become a driving instructor?

Yes. There is a three-part qualifying examination.

Are there any other requirements?

Yes – you will need to undergo an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau check.

What is involved in the qualifying examination?

You will have to do a theory and hazard perception test; a practical test of driving ability and a practical test of instructional ability.

What training will acclaim provide?

We will provide either a postal or classroom course for the Part 1 element and expert on-the-road training for the Part 2 and Part 3.

Will you provide any training to help me develop my business?

Yes. We have comprehensive business development training.

Will I be able to train whilst I am in another job?

Yes. Training is flexible and it is possible to do it whilst still working.

How long will the training take me to complete?

It depends very much on the individual and the amount of available time. It can take as little as nine weeks.

How much is the training?

This depends very much on how you pay for your training, whether there are any special promotions and also whether you take a postal or classroom course. Our Recruitment Managers will be able to provide specific information.

What are the different franchise options that acclaim offer?

There are varying options. Your Recruitment Manager will be able to advise you of the best choice for you.

If I stop training, will I get any refund of training fees?

It is dependent on how you have paid and how far into the training you are.

Am I guaranteed to pass my exams?

As with any exam focused training, we cannot guarantee that you will pass, but our success rates are very good.
