Right Start @ Chadwell Heath Academy
Teenagers in Romford get some practical lessons in safer driving at their school.

Acclaim Driving School has delivered its Right Start© programme to Chadwell Heath Academy.
Right Start© is a programme aimed at Year 12 students, giving them the opportunity to experience off-road driving as well as understanding the risks associated with driving on Britain’s roads. The programme comprises a short yet hard-hitting presentation, which looks at accident statistics, the causes of accidents as well as the devastating consequences that can follow. The presentation is followed by a quiz of ten questions, which determines the students that will go on to do the practical event. The lucky students, in teams of three, get the opportunity to drive a car in the playground under the supervision of a professionally qualified Acclaim driving instructor.
As well as providing important messaging, the course also helps the students with their Theory and Hazard perception tests that are the first part of their driving test.
The joint venture was organized by Gary Chamberlain, Acclaim’s Area Manager, and Mrs. Myford, Head of Sixth Form. Gary Chamberlain said, “I was very impressed with how many of the students got 10 out of 10 on the quiz. They are not easy questions and it did show that that a lot of learning took place. I very much look forward to working closely with the school in the future and holding further events, which because of demand means we are looking to hold two courses per year.”
Mrs. Myford added, “There was a great demand for the class with over 65 students wanting to attend it!”
The event, which was held last term, was delivered to a select number of pupils at the Chadwell Heath Academy.
