Everyone is talking about the rising cost of fuel.

The price of fuel is steadily rising towards the £1.50 per litre mark, so now more than ever is the time to start looking at the way at the way in which we drive.

Our principles have always been to teach learner drivers eco-driving, not only to help keep their carbon footprint down, but also to ensure that they understand how a few changes can go a long way.

A few of the ways in which you can help improve the efficiency of your car include;

  • Regularly check your tyre pressure, an under-inflated tyre cause the car to use more fuel, and can be a safety concern
  • Tidy that car! Weight uses extra fuel, if you don’t need it leave it at home
  • Ensure your car is probably maintained
  • Remember to accelerate gently and avoid heavy braking
  • Feel the fresh air, open the window rather than use your air conditioning
  • Change gear earlier, when possible selecting a higher gear will make all the difference to your fuel consumption
  • Check your gauges’, leaving on a heated windscreen, headlights, fans will all add to the amount of fuel the car uses.
  • Stuck in a heavy traffic jam, make sure you turn off your engine.

According to the department of transport driving at 70mph uses up to 9% more fuel than at 60mph and up to 15% more at 50mph.

At acclaimdriving we always ensure that our instructors give you the very best advice on how to drive and at the same time saving you money.
