UPDATE 30.12.20

75% of England in Tier 4 Lockdown.

The government has announced an extension to the Tier 4 rules in England in an effort to limit the spread of the coronavirus.

Driving Lessons and both theory and practical driving tests in Tier 4 areas will be postponed from 31st December 2020.

Although driving lessons and driving tests continue in tiers 1-3, you must not travel from a tier 4 area for either a lesson or a test.

UPDATE 01.12.20

How do local restriction tiers affect driver testing and training?

The Government has confirmed that driver training and testing can safely restart as normal in areas in tier 1 and 2 when the current national restrictions end on 2 December. It has also been confirmed that driving lessons can restart in all tiers when the current national restrictions end on 2 December.

Are there any additional measures for driving tests in tier 3 areas?

Yes, there will be additional safety measures in tier three areas from 3rd December.

These include:

  • reducing the number of car practical tests per day to 5 in tier 3 areas
  • anyone who has a car practical test booked in a tier 3 area who is exempt from wearing a face covering may have to delay their test until the area moves out of tier 3. The test will be re-scheduled if the DVSA cannot find a volunteer driving examiner to conduct the test without the candidate wearing a face covering.

Will the waiting rooms be open?

Following the successful reopening of waiting rooms in a number of locations, a further 94 waiting rooms will open in early December.

UPDATE 24.11.20

Following the Governments announcement, we are happy to confirm that Driving Lessons and Driving Tests will resume on Thursday 3rd December.

Please see below for the safety measures that are in place to protect our learners, instructors and the DVSA Driving Examiners.

UPDATE 01.07.20

Theory tests will restart in England on 4 July 2020 with social distancing and safety precautions in place.

Local Locktown in Leicester will prevent some instructors recommencing driving lessons on 6th June. If you live in Leceister then your lessons will be rescheduled for after 20th July. Please contact your instructor or one wof the team on 0800 838440 if you are likely to be affected.

UPDATE 18.06.20

Whilst we have continued to operate during this time for key workers, we are pleased to be able to take on more driving lessons in the coming weeks to all students and resume operations.

Given the recent instructions from the UK Government surrounding driving lessons, we have decided to recommence driving lessons to all pupils from Monday 6th July, which can be booked from Monday 15th June onwards.

Please be assured that every precaution will be taken to protect all driving instructors and our students. At the beginning of every lesson, all students will be asked to declare that they are symptom-free.

Booking Your Lessons

We advise early booking to secure lessons with our instructors as we anticipate high demand when our lessons and tests fully resume in July. Whilst we expect our instructor’s diaries to fill up fast, all lessons will be on a first-come-first-served basis.

We will be prioritising all pre-paid lessons and we will not be accepting cash as payment. Please book your driving lessons online.

Booking Your Test

If you had a test booked after 20th March which has been cancelled, we do request that you do not rebook this until advised to by your instructor.

All theory and practical tests have been suspended and you will be able to find the up-to-date information here:

The Steps We’re Taking

Declaration of Symptoms

If you do experience any symptoms, please advise your instructor as soon as possible as your lesson will need to be cancelled or postponed. We do request that if you are experiencing symptoms, you should contact the NHS 111 service. Please note that instructors will be following the same precautions.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

All instructors and students will be required to wear a mask at all times when in a vehicle. Our instructors will be following industry best practices for PPE requirements during every lesson.

Vehicle Sanitisation

To protect not only our students but also Acclaim Driving instructors, between each lesson, we have advised instructors on increasing hygiene in the car including wiping the door handles, steering wheel, gear stick, indicators, seat adjusters, parking brake and light controls before and after lessons that the instructor or students will have come into contact with during every lesson. Hand sanitiser will also be provided in the car.

We do request that there are no handshakes, windows are down, air-conditioning is switched off and that you co-operate if your instructor requests to take your temperature prior to your lesson.

Additional Training

Whilst we have remained open during this time for key workers, we have ensured that all instructors are provided with extensive training on how to protect themselves and our students. They have been trained on how to reduce viral contamination and how to operate best practices for a safe driving lesson.

Thank You

Acclaim Driving would like to thank all instructors and students for their cooperation and patience during this time of uncertainty.

Please support the campaign to reduce the spread of COVID-19 as outlined here:

UPDATE 15.06.20

The office is now open 09:00 - 17:30 with fewer phone operators than usual. Please book and make payment online where possible.

Keyworkers are able to take lessons in some areas now.

We are recommencing driving lessons for all customers from 6th July.

We are currently able to book theory tests but not practical driving tests.

UPDATE 26.05.20

Our office is still closed, the current plan is to re-open on 22nd June with lessons resuming for non-key workers on 6th July.

Key workers are able to continue with driving lessons.

The theory test centres are opening from 1st June and we are now able to book theory tests for after this date.

UPDATE 24.03.20

Due to the current advice to stay at home; we have unfortunately had to close our offices until further notice.

All lessons will be re-scheduled.

The phones will be manned between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm, however, we have very limited staff, working from home, so please be patient and email if at all possible rather than call. We will get back to you.

Please check back here for updates and thank you for your patience at this very difficult time.

UPDATE 23.03.20

Following the latest public health advice from the UK Government, it is clear that we should all do what we can to slow down the spread of this terrible virus.

Clearly, following the 'social-distancing' advice of keeping 2m apart is impossible in the close proximity of a vehicle and therefore we have advised learners and instructors to re-schedule lessons where possible, there will be no cancellation fees and we are currently advising to re-book for w/c May 25th. This will be kept under review.

We advise early booking to secure lessons with our instructors as we anticipate high demand when lessons and tests fully resume.

There are a few instructors still operating for key workers, who need their license as a matter of urgency. There are additional sanitation protocols in operation for these situations.

UPDATE 20.03.20

DVSA has announced that all driving tests are suspended for up to 3 months from 20th March 2020. There are arrangements to provide tests for critical workers.

There are separate arrangements in Northern Ireland

How to prevent the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) has become the subject of a UK wide government campaign.

We would like to assure you that acclaim driving is taking all necessary steps to ensure that you can carry on with your driving lessons. We have advised instructors on increasing hygiene in the car including wiping the door handles, steering wheel, gear stick, indicators, seat adjusters, parking brake and light controls before and after lessons.

All of our instructors are aware of the government's advice and will continue to adhere to current guidelines on the NHS website.

Our contact centre team and network of instructors remain open for business as usual.

We will keep you informed of any changes.

If you have a test booked and are concerned about cancellations then check out how to change or cancel your driving test here.

Drive safe and be safe,
